Wombok Cabbage Chicken Rolls

Ingredients
Rolls
- 12-15 wombok cabbage leaves
- 300 g chicken mince
- 2 tsp fresh ginger, grated or minced
- 1 tbsp garlic, finely chopped
- ½ cup spring onions, finely chopped
- ½ cup carrots, finely diced
- 1 ½ tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 ½ tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 ½ tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tsp avocado oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Sauce
- ¼ cup light soy sauce
- ¼ cup rice vinegar
- ½ cup water
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp coconut sugar/ honey
- Extra chilli oil, for serving
- Garnish: Sesame seeds & chopped spring onions

Method
- Blanch the cabbage leaves in boiling water for 35–40 seconds, then transfer to cold water. Pat dry and set aside.
- In a large bowl, add chicken mince, ginger, garlic, spring onions, carrots, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, salt, pepper, and cornstarch.
- Mix everything until well-combined.
- Lay a cabbage leaf on a clean surface.
- Add 2–3 tablespoons of chicken mixture on the hard part of the leaf.
- Fold in the sides and roll tightly.
- Place seam-side down.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear the rolls until lightly golden on both sides.
- Add ½ cup hot water, cover, and steam for 4–5 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked.
- In a small pot, whisk together the soy sauce, vinegar, water, sesame oil, and coconut sugar. Heat through and set aside.
- To serve: pour the sauce in a shallow dish and place 2-3 cabbage rolls per serving.
- Finish with chilli oil, sesame seeds and spring onions!
Meal prep tips
Fridge: Store cooked cabbage rolls in an airtight container for 3–4 days. Keep the dipping sauce separately.
Freezer: The cooked chicken filling is freezer-friendly, but the wombok leaves can become softer after freezing and thawing. For best texture, I'd freeze the cooked filling separately and prepare fresh cabbage leaves when serving.
If freezing the completed rolls, allow them to cool completely, wrap individually and freeze for up to 2 months for best quality.
Sauce: Refrigerate separately for up to 1 week, provided it has been prepared hygienically and kept chilled.
Reheating: Microwave until piping hot throughout, or reheat gently in a covered pan. Add fresh spring onion and sesame seeds after reheating.
