Box Breathing with Behaviour Coach, Rae Willingham
Box Breathing with Behaviour Coach, Rae Willingham
Box (Square breathing) is another well used breathing technique. It is highly effective in calming emotional charge and abating feelings of heightened emotion or anxiety.
It is a very customisable practice with the ability to use any count. In this video
we will use the most commonly used 4 count.
This breathing technique can offer invaluable insight into where we currently need support in our life. When paying attention to the way we meet each section of the breath, we can connect to underlying programs which may be making us feel unsupported:
If the inhale feels hard, we may be feeling overwhelmed or unable to bring in more.
If the hold whilst full feels difficult, it could be indicative of an inability to be present within our current situation or having a sense of needing more to have us feeling fulfilled.
If the exhale is feeling as though we’re not able to rid ourselves of all the air within our lungs we may be tuning into a need to allow ourselves to soften and let go more deeply.
If the hold whilst empty feels like a struggle, it could potentially be letting us know that we feel unsafe within the body or unable to meet ourselves as we currently are.
