Major Investment in Women’s Health

Major Investment in Women’s Health

At Zing Wellbeing, we are dedicated to supporting women’s health at every stage of life, and we couldn’t be happier to see a significant commitment from the Australian government to further prioritise women’s healthcare - but just remember this is the Labour Government promising this if they get back in after upcoming election and we have yet to hear from the opposition government.

After years of women’s health being overlooked and underfunded, this $573 million investment is a much-needed step in the right direction.

For too long, women have faced barriers to essential healthcare, from limited menopause support to out-of-pocket costs for contraceptives and a lack of services for endometriosis and pelvic pain.

But this announcement signals real change, giving women better access to the care they deserve and we hope this is just the start of the increased investment in women's health from whichever government is in power.

What’s Included in the Women’s Health Investment?

This funding will bring practical, real-world improvements to women’s healthcare in Australia, including:

Affordable Contraceptives: New oral contraceptives, including Yaz and Yasmin, will be added to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for the first time in over 30 years—saving women hundreds of dollars each year.

Increased Medicare Rebates for Long-Term Contraceptives: Procedures like IUD insertions will have rebates increased from $91 to $215, making them more affordable and accessible.

Better Menopause Care:

  • A new Medicare rebate for menopause health assessments.
  • New menopausal hormone therapy treatments will be added to the PBS (including Prometrium, Estrogel, and Estrogel Pro), marking the first updates in over 20 years.

More Endometriosis & Pelvic Pain Clinics: The government will expand the number of specialist clinics from 22 to 33, providing better support for women struggling with these conditions.

Pharmacy Access to Treatments:

  • Pharmacists will be trained to offer consultations and treatments for uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs).
  • They will also be able to provide contraceptive advice—helping an estimated 250,000 concession cardholders.

A Step in the Right Direction for Women’s Health

At Zing Wellbeing, we’ve always championed holistic, evidence-based women’s health solutions. From gut health and hormone balance to weight loss and mental wellbeing, we believe that women deserve to have access to the knowledge, tools, and care that help them live healthier, happier lives.

This new funding validates what we’ve been saying women’s health matters, and it’s about time the healthcare system prioritised it.

While there’s still a long way to go, this investment will change lives, making essential healthcare more affordable, more accessible, and more effective.

We’ll continue to support women through education, expert-backed programs, and a thriving community of women on the same journey.

Let’s keep the conversation going and push for even more improvements in women’s health.
