How to create a Wellness Box
Bernie wants to remind us all that there are times during your wellbeing journey that you need to stop and reset. Prioritise your mental health and wellbeing and focus on YOU!
At times you may feel like you have lost hope and happiness.
This is when you should take a moment to rest and recharge.
There are often those times in our life or events that may trigger this feeling of despair.
Things like a relationship breakdown, routine change, a change in jobs, or losing a friend or family member.
There are also some people who are more prone to feeling stress and anxiety on a much deeper level.
Regardless of your past history, it’s very common and more than OK to have these feelings.
If symptoms persist or worsen, please seek medical advice or contact Lifeline 13 11 14.
How to create a Wellness box
Find a cardboard box/plastic container around your home or purchase one.
Visual
Add in anything that is visual that brings you joy. This could include photos, printed motivational quotes, artwork from your children.
Smell
Add in something that you can smell, this could be a candle, your favourite perfume or essential oil.
Taste
Add something that you can taste (that has a long expiry date). This could be a type a type of snack, tea bag or coffee or maybe a lollie, it could be sweet or sour.
Touch
Add in something you can feel (and like the feeling of). This could be playdough, sand, fidget or sensory toys.
Sound
Add in something you can listen to. This may be your favorite podcasts or songs written down. You may have a shell from the beach or write down your favorite movie or tv show to watch.
Activity
Some examples could be a book that you could read, a journal you could write in or a colouring book to colour. With these you may choose to do them inside or outside in the sunshine and to help ground yourself on the grass. Others may like diamond art, bath salts to relax in a bath, face masks, nail polish, wool to knit with or puzzles. This is anything that can distract you from your currents thoughts and that you enjoy doing.
Tip:
You can decorate your box; you can add items in and take them out as needed. There is no right or wrong way, it must feel good for you. I have personally been using a Wellness box for 12 years and mine is constantly changing and evolving with me
We love this idea from Bernie, thanks for sharing it with us.
