Discover how Natasha reduced her lower back pain and leg spasms

Discover how Natasha reduced her lower back pain and leg spasms through sustainable weight loss, improved nutrition, and lifestyle changes.

For years, Natasha struggled with persistent lower back pain and frustrating leg spasms that disrupted her sleep, mobility, and daily life. Like many people, she tried quick fixes, but it wasn’t until she focused on sustainable weight loss and a healthier lifestyle that things truly began to change.

This is her story—and what you can learn from it.

Weight loss changed my lower back pain and leg spasms

Natasha says, "Since I can remember, I have always been overweight, always yo-yo dieting, and always not happy with myself.

In 2016, I was at a healthy weight, I had managed to lose 17kgs doing Rhian’s previous business and was feeling amazing.

But in 2017, myself and my family moved to a country town, and after being a stay at home mum for 6 years, I started working, with working, parenting and life’s normal stresses, the weight started to creep back on.

In 2019, I underwent a hysterectomy, and not long after, had my appendix taken out.

Slowly, after all that the weight kept piling on. I would consistently start trying again, but always fell off the wagon.

I gave it a rest and started just living life, but I wasn’t happy, I just kept doing life.

In 2021, my whole world came crashing down, my marriage had ended, we had court dates and counselling appointments, police station appointments, all coming out of our ears due to the crimes my ex-husband had committed against my children.

My children's and my mental health was at an all-time low, to the point I nearly got admitted into a hospital ward.

Between 2021 and the start of 2025 I had gotten to my heaviest of 116kgs. I was tired, sore, and burnt out.

In 2025, I was on Facebook when I saw Michelle Knight had taken the leap and joined Zing Wellbeing, I watched from the sidelines and wished I had the courage to join as well.

In May of 2025 I finally took the leap, and boy am I glad I did.

Starting at 110.8kgs I knew I had to do something.

I was going to the chiropractor every fortnight to fix my lower back and leg spasms. I was always tired, I was always cranky and snapping at the children.

In the first few months, I lost 7kgs and wow, what a difference it made.

I noticed my lower back wasn't sore like it use to be, I wasn’t going to the chiropractor all the time it went from fortnightly to monthly to only now going to see him when my last visit was in June 2025.

My sleeping improved so much that I was no longer waking up tired and sore but full of energy and ready to take on the day.

My co workers noticed the difference also, commenting on how good I was looking and commenting that I wasn't saying my back was sore.

In November of 2025 all the court hearings finally finished, but my mental health took a turn for the worse and I was ordered by the doctor to rest for 2 weeks. It was in this 2 weeks that I gave up on myself. Putting 5kgs back on that I had previously lost.

Once back at work, I noticed that my back started playing up again, I was constantly having headaches and the cranky mummy was coming back.

So I started again slowly. Picking myself up and meal prepping again, exercising again, eating healthy food, and I’ve already noticed a difference.

I started the 4 week challenge and am loving the food again, loving the exercising again and loving life again. I’m smiling, and my co workers and children are seeing this.

I haven’t lost much weight during this challenge, as I’m just slowly getting back into things, but I can definitely notice a difference like my sleeping is becoming better, I’m not breaking out like I used to, I’m not snapping at the children as much, my headaches are disappearing and I’m feeling less lethargic.

I even went to the chiropractor today and he said I was looking good, and my back wasn’t as bad as what I was a year ago.

Continuing to lose the weight slowly is making a big difference.

No matter how many times I give up on myself, as long as I get back up and start again, one day I WILL get there.

Why Weight Loss Can Help with Pain

While every person is different, healthy weight loss can support:

Reduced spinal load and pressure on joints
Improved posture and core strength
Lower inflammation levels in the body
Better circulation and muscle function

These changes may help ease symptoms like back pain and muscle spasms over time.

Tips If You’re Struggling with Similar Symptoms

If you’re dealing with lower back pain or leg spasms, Natasha suggests starting small:

  • Focus on consistency, not perfection
  • Build meals around whole, nutrient-dense foods
  • Incorporate gentle daily movement
  • Stay hydrated and consider your mineral intake
  • Seek support from a qualified health professional

Natasha’s journey is a powerful reminder that small, sustainable lifestyle changes can have a big impact not just on weight, but on pain, mobility, and quality of life.

If you’re feeling stuck, know that change is possible and it doesn’t have to be extreme to be effective.
