How Brooke Managed Kidney Stones with the Support of Zing Wellbeing

Brooke shares her story of how Zing Wellbeing supported her health while suffering from Kidney Stones.

Brooke says, "I have been a member with Zing Wellbeing for 15 months and have lost 30kg during this time.

Recently, I unfortunately was rushed to the Emergency, where I was told I had many Kidney stones and would need a pain management plan to return home until I have surgery on a public wait list.

Rhian, the owner of Zing Wellbeing, reached out with support to me personally & also got her nutrition team to work on a meal plan to support my kidneys."

Zing Wellbeing cares!

Zing Wellbeing really cares for their members and their health. Rhian will go above and beyond for her customers & I am so grateful for the support Zing has given me.

I have used the meals and recipes from the kidney health meal plan that Zing Wellbeing created for me, along with a few other recipes from the Zing Wellbeing app.

Diet and nutrition really help with Kidney stones

Having this support from Zing Wellbeing, has enabled me to keep my health on track  & my urologist also agrees the meals are great.

I have since passed one large stone, which means I have kept well hydrated and because I have eaten so well during the two weeks, I was able to delay my surgery a bit longer by 60 days. My Doctor recommended I continue to follow the kidney health meal plan.

Kidney Health Meal Plan

The Meal plan was easy to follow. I have repeated meals to make it easier, but also having the knowledge of foods that will support my kidney health has really supported my kidney stone recovery journey a lot better & has kept me from falling off track during a hard time.

My mental health and approach to my eating is 100% better as I have the tools & support from Zing Wellbeing.

I highly recommend this meal plan for anyone looking to support their kidneys. Thank you so much again Rhian and Zing, I am a very happy customer. Xx ♡

What causes Kidney Stones?

Kidney stones form when certain substances in your urine become too concentrated and stick together, creating crystals that grow into stones. This process is closely linked to hydration, diet, and overall health.

Here are the most common causes:

1. Dehydration (Most Common Cause)

Not drinking enough water means your urine becomes concentrated, allowing minerals like calcium and oxalate to crystallise.

2. Diet Factors

What you eat plays a big role:

High sodium (salt) → increases calcium in urine
Too much animal protein (red meat, chicken, eggs) → raises uric acid levels
High-oxalate foods (spinach, nuts, chocolate) → can contribute to certain stones
Low calcium intake → surprisingly, this can increase stone risk because calcium helps bind oxalate in the gut

3. Being Overweight or Metabolic Issues

Conditions like insulin resistance can change urine composition, increasing stone risk.

4. Medications & Supplements

Some medications and high doses of supplements can contribute, such as:

  • Calcium supplements (in excess)
  • Vitamin C (high doses)
  • Some diuretics

Simple Prevention Tips

  • Drink plenty of water (aim for pale yellow urine)
  • Reduce excess salt
  • Balance protein intake
  • Don’t cut calcium too low
  • Eat a whole-food, balanced diet
