Kerry has Lost Nearly 20kgs: How Weight Loss Improved My Asthma

So proud of Kerry, she has lost nearly 20kgs since joining Zing Wellbeing and her health and wellness have changed drastically. Even her asthma has improved!

It is so amazing to hear these health stories and how women have changed their lives for the better with the knowledge and support of Zing Wellbeing.

Kerry says: "I’ve now reached 19kg weight loss and I’m so proud of myself. I have come a long way from 97kg to now 78 kgs. I’m jumping for joy I’ve nearly reached my goal."

"Having the food and powders from Zing Wellbeing has helped so much. Back at the gym once a week and exercising at home every day has also helped.

I have gut powders every morning, which has helped my tummy go down from bloating, my hair is strong not falling out like it was and my nails are stronger and grown a lot better.

Before I started Zing Wellbeing, I was 97k,g wearing a size 18 to 16 in tops and 16 in pants. I was really uncomfortable.  I’m now in a size 12 pjs from a 16.

I have now lost 19kg since joining Zing Wellbeing. I'm now in a size 14 to 12 in tops and 12 in pants."

"My depression wasn't good, my reflux was always playing up and my health wasn't the best, having a fatty liver too.

My hair was falling out a lot and not growing, my nails were weak from the fake nails.

I was eating a lot of junk food and fast food, wasn't watching what I was having and soft drinks, and not exercising.

Joining Zing Wellbeing has been a life changer and a great experience. I'm now exercising, joined the gym, eating Zing Wellbeing recipes, and having smoothies with Zing Wellbeing wellness powder, salted caramel is my fave."

My Asthma has improved too!

For years, my asthma felt like something I just had to “live with.” Puffers in every bag, breathlessness during simple activities, and that constant underlying anxiety of not being able to get enough air.

But what I didn’t realise was how much my lifestyle and particularly my weight was impacting my symptoms.

This isn’t a story about perfection or quick fixes. It’s about small, realistic changes that made a big difference to my breathing, my energy, and my overall quality of life.

Living with Asthma

If you’ve ever experienced asthma, you’ll know it’s more than just occasional wheezing. For me, it showed up as:

  • Tightness in my chest
  • Breathlessness during everyday tasks
  • Fatigue after minimal exertion
  • Frequent reliance on reliever medication
  • Exercise felt intimidating, and I often avoided it—ironically making things worse over time.

The Turning Point

I didn’t set out to “fix” my asthma. My goal was simple: feel better in my body.

I started focusing on:

  • Nourishing foods instead of restrictive dieting
  • Gentle, consistent movement
  • Improving my overall health rather than chasing a number on the scale

As the weight slowly started to come off, something unexpected happened… my breathing improved.

The Link Between Weight and Asthma

Research shows that carrying excess weight can worsen asthma symptoms in several ways:

  • Increased inflammation in the body
  • Extra pressure on the lungs and chest
  • Reduced lung capacity
  • Lower tolerance for physical activity
  • Even a modest weight loss can help reduce symptom severity.

What Changed for Me

As I lost weight gradually, I noticed:

1. Easier Breathing

I wasn’t gasping for air doing basic tasks anymore. Walking, cleaning, even talking felt easier.

2. Fewer Flare-Ups

My reliance on my inhaler decreased, and flare-ups became less frequent and less intense.

3. More Confidence to Move

Exercise no longer felt scary. I started with short walks and slowly built up to longer sessions.

4. Better Sleep

Night-time symptoms reduced, which meant deeper, more restful sleep.

The Lifestyle Shifts That Helped

This wasn’t about extremes—it was about consistency.

Balanced Eating

I focused on whole, nourishing foods:

  • Plenty of vegetables and fruit
  • Lean protein for satiety
  • Healthy fats for hormone and inflammation support

Gentle Movement

Instead of pushing too hard, I built a routine that felt achievable:

  • Walking
  • Light strength training
  • Stretching and mobility

Reducing Triggers

I became more aware of what worsened my asthma:

  • Highly processed foods
  • Poor sleep
  • Stress

It Wasn’t Just About Weight

Here’s the truth: it wasn’t just the weight loss itself, it was the healthier lifestyle that came with it.

Weight loss was simply a by-product of:

  • Better habits
  • More movement
  • Improved self-care

Those changes had a powerful ripple effect on my asthma.

If you’re living with asthma, it’s important to remember:

  • Everyone’s experience is different
  • Weight loss isn’t a “cure”
  • Small changes can still make a meaningful difference

Always work with your healthcare provider when making changes to your lifestyle or asthma management plan.

Improving my asthma didn’t happen overnight. But by focusing on sustainable lifestyle changes, I gave my body the support it needed to function better.

And the biggest win? Feeling like I could finally breathe, fully, freely, and without fear.
