How to treat hormone and menopause acne

Skin care expert Amy Zapantis and founder of Amatus Skincare chats with us at Zing Wellbeing about looking after our aging skin and her secret little tips and tricks to treat that dreaded menopause and hormone fueled acne when it pops up out of nowhere.

How to treat adult acne

Tackling menopause and hormone related acne can be challenging, but with the right approach, you can manage it effectively.

Your lifestyle and your everyday routines can come into play including diet, stress, environment and exercise. You want to ensure you maintain a balanced diet rich in nutritional foods, especially fatty acids.

This is where Zing Wellbeing meal plans and recipes are a perfect choice with nutritional benefits in every single recipe!

Drink Water!

Ensure you are drinking plenty of water, get into the routine of drinking a bottle of water before you leave the house in the morning! Your skin automatically will look more refreshed.

Cleanse and cleanse again!

If exercising, ensure to cleanse your skin (double cleanse) to remove bacteria and build up to avoid clogged pores.

Whether you are in an office all day, or running around with kids or to and from different places, wearing makeup all day, the same applies for ensuring you cleanse away all the pollutants!

Reduce stress

Adulthood can be stressful! Ensure you are taking time out of your day to destress as stress can exacerbate acne!

If you find yourself struggling to beat this! The below routine is my recommendation to help reduce this efficiently and effectively!

One key is to avoid anything harsh and too many products as this could irritate the skin.

Cleansing (double cleansing): Use a mild cleanser without stripping your skincare. I would avoid any cleanser that incorporates acids to help reduce the acne with high percentages that aren’t made for every day. You want to use one that you can consistently use and help you maintain clearer skin.

Moisturiser: Choose a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated without clogging pores.

• Serum: Include a serum every night (or morning and night for best effects) under your moisturiser. Using something like this will help elevate your routine as they are packed with rich ingredients including arbutin, peptides, niacinamide, lactic acid and hyaluronic acid. It will help to target acne in a gentle way as well as renew your skin and avoids you using too many acids as you want your skin to heal.

Other tips for those with adult acne

Avoid picking and squeezing! You want to avoid inflaming, scarring and pigmentation, that’s why the above products are recommended to help all these areas.

Avoiding heavy makeup, oily products or anything heavy that may block your pores.

Adult acne can be distressing, but with a comprehensive approach that includes the right skincare, minor lifestyle adjustments, it is manageable. Be patient and give your treatments time to work! A simple, maintainable but effective routine is key!
