How Helen improved her gut health thanks to Zing Wellbeing

Helen shares, in March this year, I started tracking my bowel movements, as I was having a lot of bouts of diarrhea. Before this I went to see my doctor and she said it’s probably an IBS situation, and to start eliminating foods to find out the cause.

I had no real pain with it, just an explosion of diarrhoea and then nothing for the rest of the day. 

I started eliminating certain foods but nothing seemed to change.

I went back to my doctor four months later, and she sent me off for a stool sample and an ultrasound. The stool sample came back all clear but the ultrasound showed that I had a gallstone.

So she set me off to see a surgeon. The surgeon said if I have no pain, which I didn’t, he didn’t need to do anything at this stage. I told him about the diarrhoea, and he said it’s probably just a bug. When I told my doctor what the surgeon had said, she was disappointed as she believed it was the gallstone causing all of my problems. 

Walking away from the doctors I felt frustrated, and didn’t know who to believe. We were heading overseas for a holiday and I thought I would deal with it once I had returned. 

Discovering Zing Wellbeing health program

I saw a post on Zing Wellbeing on Facebook advertising about a Gut Health program coming soon and thought I might look into this a bit more and started following their page.

Everything that I saw resonated with me so much. It was set more around health and wellbeing, and not around counting calories.

have been on a bit of a journey the past couple of years, becoming an intuitive eater, getting rid of the diet mentality, and my all or nothing approach. 

Learning to love and accept myself finally for the person I am, and not the number one the scales, so I thought Zing Wellbeing sounded good to me. 

So when I returned home from my holidays, I joined Zing Wellbeing, and started the Gut Health challenge.

To my amazement I could see/feel a difference within a week.

No diarrhea, I thought to myself that any day now, it would raise its ugly head again, but no, a month later and still no symptoms. I was absolutely thrilled! 

I believe it’s all the extra fibre I’m eating. The chia seeds that I’ve never eaten before, and are now in my daily diet. Plus all the extra vegetables and leafy greens. I’m feeling so much better, and definitely have more energy. 

Thank you, Zing Wellbeing, hopefully no surgery in the near future. 

I now know it’s not a race to do everything, and perfection is not in my vocabulary.

I also just finished the 7 day sleep challenge with Rae Willingham, and what a difference this has made to my sleep.

I know longer sleep with an alarm clock, so now when I wake up in the middle of the night, my brains not saying omg it’s only 3,4,5am. I just see darkness, and I feel like I’m going back to sleep quicker.

Rae shared a beautiful routine to do at night before bed, and explains the important of getting up and going to bed at the same times, with a leeway of 30min either way even if it’s a weekend. I slept my first full night sleep last night without waking up. Woohoo. 

I have never had an "excellent" in my sleep score in ages. I couldn’t be happier!

"My stomach has improved immensely, and now my sleep. No wonder I’m jumping out of bed in the mornings now with energy again."

Helen's favourite recipes

My favourite recipes would be all the ones with chia seeds in them. As they have helped with my issues. Granola, chia jam, chia puds, bliss ball.

I swear I will never buy granola or jam again, these too recipes are a staple now in my pantry. 

Other recipes that I’ve loved so far would be Purple eggs on sourdough. 

  • Tuna & Rice poke bowl. 
  • Beef cheek stew. 
  • Vegetable curry. 
  • Falafel wrap.
  • Salmon soba noodles salad
  • Choc bliss balls
